Caini de vanatoare
A cold day in February. We have all got together, shriveling with cold, in a conference room of our hosts – The “Vasile Lascar” Police School in Câmpina. The session starts, we are informed that finally we are starting our journey. A journey which will not be easy but that we will take together, a journey that we have been wanting for so long and which today, February 17th, 2007, on the occasion of this meeting, finally starts.

We are invited to take part in the foundation of a new family, in the commencement of some constructive actions for canine hunting. We all desire that, once we start this journey, together, in the “National Club of Hunting Work for Pointing Dogs”, we can overcome the carelessness which should have been long eradicated.

National Club Pointers is affiliated to the Romanian Canine Association (AchR) which is a member of the International Canine Federation (FCI). National Club Pointers aims to develop and put forward the canine fund of pointer bird dogs from working trials and hunting perspective, as well as to encourage and support breeders and trainers.

For the achievement of its goals, National Club Pointers undertakes to carry out at least the following objectives:

  • Organization of contests, competitions and working trials for pointer bird dogs;
  • Organization of seminars, training and improvement sessions on arbitration proceedings and methods regarding pointer bird dogs;
  • Training candidates to become arbitrators, out of the breeders that possess the required skills in order to aptly, authoritatively and impartially participate in the canine events, in accordance with the AChR Arbitration College Regulations;
  • Drafting the annual list of proposed Arbitrator Candidates for the pointer bird dogs, in accordance with the A.Ch.R. regulations;
  • Encouraging the participation of members of National Club Pointers in canine events, other than Club’s events;
  • Creating special prizes to be awarded to breeders and trainers with outstanding results in breeding, promoting and improving the canine fund of pointer bird dogs;
  • Facilitating the relationship between members, leading them through canine activity;
  • Publishing, as often as possible, a Periodical Bulletin which approaches issues of large interest, appreciating and promoting the pointer bird dog breeds, club’s activities and the results of club’s members, for the purpose of allowing breeders to improve their knowledge.

Any person of age, Romanian or foreign citizen that is a resident in Romania, who submits a written application and who owns at least one pointer bird dog registered in a Book of Origins recognized by FCI, may become a member of the .

We have also been offered the continued support from the General Association of Sport Hunters and Fishers, under the coordination of Mr. Selaru Neculai, Dr. Eng., who is deeply passionate with canine hunting and is a breeder of large experience in this area.

It is already well known that it is very important for a hunter to have a good dog at his side, from dedicated hunting categories, passionate, with special olfactory skills. Why waste lots of wounded chase while we can recover it with the help of a good hunting dog?! Thus, the collaboration with the hunting members reveals a promising perspective, as such dogs are obtained after very meticulous training.  In this family of National Club Pointers we shall learn from the experienced, during training sessions, how to collaborate with the dog, how to dialogue with it, in order to achieve the desired performance. Following the working trials – the “Solms”-type exams (for the German Shorthair Pointer) and “Saint Hubert”-type exams (for the British pointer dogs), National Club Pointers shall issue certificates for the dogs that shall be used for hunting.

Such working trials shall include shooting trials, fetching from dry land and from water etc. Let’s therefore join this family so that we can together make a dream come true: promoting the hunting dog and the Romanian canine hunting within the country and abroad, reaching the same level as our neighbors, in accordance with European regulations. Currently there are very good dogs, in our country, out of recognized hunting categories – let’s do everything in our power to become worthy of the dog next to us (by gaining experience in canine training for hunting, by participating together with our dogs in competitions and working trials)! Let’s learn together how to be the best friends, how to offer the chance to our hunting dog to do what it was created to do: hunting!
